Searching for Connection

The longer I'm on this team, the more dogs seem to take over my brain. I think I've accidentally become We Rate Dogs' biggest fan. (No shame.) Also, can we talk about how this is my first time shipping a game? My first week of sprint planning was basically me watching myself on video, waiting for a word I actually recognized.

Bernie, our fearless CEO, and Stefani, our UX design whiz, have both worked on Bogo and First Steps. I can't help but wonder if their meetings were as intense and focused as these. I try to chime in occasionally as the comic relief. As the community and marketing guru on the team (I've been asked to stop calling myself that, but I'm sure it was a typo), it's awesome to get an inside look at what goes into making a game that our team is so passionate about.

Speaking of our team, I had a chance to chat with Alejandro Cannizzo, our Gameplay Engineer. Get to know him a bit in the post below!

Meet the Team

Alejandro, Gameplay Engineer

Get to Know Alejandro!

Q: What's your role at Windup Minds, and what does a typical day look like for you?

A: "I'm a Gameplay Engineer! I'm in a different time zone from most of the team, so a typical day usually consists of catching up, providing feedback and help where needed, and then moving on to tackling my own tasks for the day."

Q: What's the coolest thing you've worked on recently?

A: "It's still ongoing, but I have been putting a lot of effort into creating custom shaders for the game, which was needed to support certain features but to also give us enough control to make things as performant as possible. Not quite there yet, but it did give me a refresher on a lot of shader code I had forgotten about!"

Q: Any words of wisdom for someone new to the team or the field?

A: "Don't be afraid to ask for help no matter how small or simple the problem might be!"

Q: What do you like to do when you're not at work?

A: "I play games a lot and I'm also developing a game of my own!"

Check out the first episode of Community Corner. It’s our 15 minute weekly livestream where I give you some insight into game development here at Windup Minds.
